The Siblings Who Just Handle It

When the youngest turned 2.5, his parents enrolled him in daycare. The first week was fine. The second week, he hated it. His parents started using his 5-year-old brother as proof that daycare was survivable. The older one wasn’t always thrilled about mornings either, but he started performing enthusiasm because it was needed. One rough day, the little one refused again. His big brother sighed: “Looks like I have to be the man again.”

For Grandpa’s birthday, the younger boy wanted to make a card featuring a character from his favorite cartoon. The problem: his drawing skills topped out at a basic house shape. Suggesting he draw something else only made him more upset. His older brother stepped in. He drew the character in black and white. The younger one colored it with watercolors, supervised carefully. Grandpa loved the card. Both boys knew exactly what they’d made together.

The Ones That Need No Explanation

She’s 20, a professional biathlete, and her parents are her best friends. They have her social media passwords. She talks about the guys she likes with her mom. Her dad, a former biathlete, is also her coach. People tell her she should move out, live in a dorm, stop being so close to her family. She genuinely doesn’t understand what they’re getting at.

At her daughter’s birthday party, a guest eyed the homemade cake and announced it looked too sweet. She wasn’t sure she should eat it. The birthday girl walked over, picked up the plate with the slice on it, and said, “Thank you, Aunt Gala. I’ll go ahead and eat your piece. The cake is just too delicious.” Then she walked away with it.
