The End Is Already in Sight
Strange New Worlds isn’t the only Trek property heading for a close. Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is wrapping with its second season. No new Star Trek series are currently in active development. The franchise that expanded so aggressively through the 2010s is now, quietly, contracting.

When Paramount+ confirmed Season 5 would be the last, the producers put out a statement that read more like a farewell letter than a studio announcement.
“From the very beginning, Strange New Worlds set out to honor what Star Trek has always stood for — boundless curiosity, hope and the belief that a better future is possible. We’re deeply grateful to Paramount+ for the chance to complete our five-season mission, just as we envisioned it, alongside our extraordinary cast and crew.”
Fans still have two full seasons ahead. The Enterprise isn’t done yet. But every step now feels like a walk toward the door.
